Medical University of Lodz in cooperation with The University of Utah will be conducting clinical research which will involve the analysis  of the safety and effectiveness  of an innovative method of ablation in patients suffering from persistent atrial fibrillation.

The research will include 25 patients and will be supervised by Prof. Andrzej Lubiński and Marcin Książczyk MD from the Department of  Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Arrhythmias  of Medical University of Lodz.

Patients in the study group will undergo pulmonary veins isolation ablation with the analysis of fibrotic tissue revealed in DE-MRI . In the control group conventional PVI ablation will be performed. Each patient will receive a telemedicine device, ECG Check, which is compatible with a smartphone or a tablet and thereby enables the registration of everyday ECG tracing.  Six months after the surgery magnetic resonance imaging will be performed  to assess the condition of the pulmonary veins and heart.

Enrollment in the trials is expected at the turn of June and July 2018 and the whole project in Lodz centre will continue for 2 years.
