EXCELLENCE INITIATIVE – RESEARCH UNIVERSITY 3rd REPORTING CONFERRENCE

‘The Excellence Initiative – Research University’ programme 3rd Reporting Conference was held in Gdansk University of Technology on 15-16 September. Our University was represented by Prof. Lucyna Woźniak, Vice Rector for Research Strategy and International Relations, and  Paweł Zawieja, Vice Chancellor for Organisation and Development.

Prof. Woźniak along with the representatives of the University of Warsaw, AGH: University of Science and Technology and Gdansk University of Technology took part in a panel discussion on the search for an optimal research portfolio:  a change in research profile allowing for the university potential, current global challenges and arising opportunities.

This year’s conference was marked by the issues of global challenges and disturbances such as COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine or Brexit, which all considerably affected research development and international collaboration between universities.

The pandemic with the ensuing restrictions as well as the war in Ukraine put our international collaboration stability and effectiveness to the test.  As a university, we were assured that our membership in large and stable consortia an alliances (EIP-AHA, Alliance4Life, EIT Health, LIFE Cluster and Łukasiewicz Research Network) warrants not only the continuity but also development of collaboration even when faced with unfavourable circumstances.

The conference was also an opportunity for the exchange of good practices in the area of strengthening cooperation with university society worldwide or the design and implementation of effective programmes for researchers development.

The aim of  3rd Reporting Conference is to disclose the activities undertaken by the participants of the programme in the 3rd year of its implementation and to make preparations for the  mid-term evaluation of  ‘The Excellence Initiative – Research University’ programme. In 2019 the Ministry of Science and Higher Education organised the first call within ‘Excellence Initiative – Research University’ programme and it appeared to be the turning point in the internationalisation of the higher education and research in Poland.
