Medical University of Lodz and University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine sign a cooperation contract
On 16th April 2018 MUL Department of Endodontics and the authorities of Division of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Medicine had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Syngcuk Kim from University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, one of the most prestigious schools for dentists-to-be from USA and the whole world.
A cooperation agreement was signed between both universities. MUL was represented by: Prof. Marzenna Zielińska MD PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Jerzy Sokołowski MD PhD,Vice-Dean for Division of Dental Medicine Development, Assoc. Prof. Monika Łukomska-Szymańska MD PhD, Vice-Dean for Education of the Division of Dental Medicine and Aleksandra Palatyńska-Ulatowska MD PhD, on behalf of the Head of the Department of Endodontics.
Under the agreement, the two universities will collaborate academically in the exchange of students, PhD students and academic teachers. Moreover, the contract includes joint research projects and sharing education experience via conferences, teaching courses, workshops, training and scientific material exchange.
Professor Syngcuk Kim is a world-famous specialist in endodontics and microsurgical endodontics. He received numerous achievement awards including Endodontic and Pulp Biology Research Awards by IADR and Luis I. Grossman Award for his publication of research on physiology and microcirculation of the dental pulp. Since 1992, prof. Kim has been the Head of Department of Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, where, thanks to his innovative approach, Microscope Training Centre has provided training to over 1000 top educators in endodontics and to clinicians from USA, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Prof Kim has changed an obsolete approach to surgical endodontics into modern microsurgery by designing a range of i.a. endodontic instruments. His professional engagement makes him lecture at universities and attend conferences, discussion panels and meetings of specialist societies all over the world. He is also an author of several manuals and over seventy papers published in reviewed journals. He was a host editor of the Dental Clinics of North America. Currently, he is a member of the editorial board of International Journal of Endodontics, Journal of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Biology. He co-authored ‘Endodontology, a Color Atlas of Dental Medicine’, which was translated into 14 languages. Now, prof. Kim’s professional interests are focused on stem cells and a variety of dental materials applied in endodontics.
The cooperation between MUL and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine creates excellent opportunities for development both for the students and teachers at MUL Division of Dental Medicine of Faculty of Medicine.
