SHORT DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH ACTIVITY
In the Department of Endocrinology of Aging we perform a research study on analysis of mechanisms (mainly a role of adipose tissue and adipokines as well as insulin signaling pathway), potentially involved in lifespan regulation (leading to extended longevity), using animal experimental models [mostly long-lived mice with reduced somatotropic (GH/IGF-1) signaling]
Keywords: Aging; longevity; animal experimental models; long-lived dwarf mice; GHRKO mice; Ames dwarf mice
DEPARTMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS: PROJECTS AND PAPERS
The project (Polish National Science Centre) (2017-20): „Is adipose tissue beneficially involved in lifespan regulation? Analysis of potential mechanisms, mainly the role of GH-IGF-1 axis, insulin metabolic pathway and inflammation in long-lived Ames dwarf (df/df) mice” (PI: Adam Gesing, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof.)
The project under Call for joint Indo-Polish proposals (Ministry of Science and Higher Education): „Pharmacological mimicking of cold via cold thermo-receptors [Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin (A) 1 and Melastatin (M) 8] and energy regulation: novel implications in obesity and type-2 diabetes” (PI: Adam Gesing, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof.) (Cooperation with National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, India)
